Thailand Through the Eyes of The White Lotus – and Me!

Hi there, Becky Kelly here. I am Sarah’s Virtual Assistant currently living in South East Asia. If you’ve ever watched The White Lotus, you’ll know that each season transports you to a breathtakingly beautiful, almost dreamlike setting. Season 3 is taking us to Thailand – and let me tell you, having been there myself, it’s every bit as magical as the show makes it seem.

From stunning island resorts to bustling night markets, Thailand is a destination that has it all. I was lucky enough to experience some of the same places where The White Lotus is filming, and if you’re thinking of visiting, here’s why Thailand should be at the top of your list.

Luxury Meets Nature: The Resorts

One of the things The White Lotus does best is showcase ultra-luxurious hotels, and Thailand’s resorts are no exception. The Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui is one of the show’s key locations, and it’s everything you’d expect – private villas tucked into lush greenery, infinity pools overlooking turquoise waters, and the kind of serenity that makes you forget the rest of the world exists.

Another gem? Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas. This resort feels like stepping into another world, with its floating pavilions, private plunge pools, and a spa that’s quite literally out of a dream. If you want to be pampered like a White Lotus guest (minus the drama, hopefully), this is the place to be.

Beyond the Resorts: A Cultural Wonderland

Thailand isn’t just about luxury – it’s about experiencing a vibrant culture that blends tradition with adventure. In The White Lotus, you’ll see characters stepping beyond their five-star hotels to explore the local scene. I did the same, and it was unforgettable.

In Koh Samui, I visited Wat Phu Khao Thong, a peaceful Buddhist temple that felt worlds away from the tourist crowds. It’s the kind of place where you can take a deep breath and just be. Then there’s the Fisherman’s Village, a charming coastal town where the night market comes alive with street food, handcrafted souvenirs, and the best coconut ice cream you’ll ever taste.

For a deeper dive into Thai culture, I explored the famous Grand Palace in Bangkok, an awe-inspiring complex of golden temples, intricate architecture, and sacred relics. Walking through Wat Pho, home to the massive reclining Buddha, felt like stepping into a different time. These places aren’t just stunning – they’re living history.

I also couldn’t miss Ayutthaya, the ancient capital of Thailand. The crumbling ruins of temples and palaces tell a story of Thailand’s grand past, and biking through this UNESCO World Heritage site was an experience I’ll never forget.

Island Vibes: Exploring Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan is also a wellness haven, with world-class yoga retreats that attract travelers from all over the world. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned yogi, practicing sunrise yoga overlooking the ocean is an experience like no other. The island's laid-back vibe makes it an ideal place to reconnect with yourself and nature.

Just a short boat ride from Koh Samui is Koh Phangan, an island known for its busy nightlife and breathtaking beaches. While it’s famous for the legendary Full Moon Party, there’s so much more to discover beyond the neon lights.

I found hidden gems like Haad Yuan Beach, a peaceful stretch of sand perfect for unwinding, and Than Sadet Waterfall, a serene jungle escape once visited by Thai royalty. Whether you’re looking for adventure, relaxation, or a mix of both, Koh Phangan has something special to offer.

The Ultimate Adventure: Mu Ko Ang Thong National Marine Park

If The White Lotus is all about opulence, Thailand’s natural wonders remind you that true luxury is sometimes just a perfect sunset over the ocean. One of the show’s most breathtaking backdrops is Mu Ko Ang Thong National Marine Park, an archipelago of 42 tiny islands with hidden lagoons, limestone cliffs, and crystal-clear water. Kayaking through the caves here was one of my trip’s biggest highlights.

And then, of course, there’s Phuket’s Yacht Haven Marina, where luxury boats line the shore, waiting to take you on an island-hopping adventure. I couldn’t help but imagine what kind of White Lotus-style drama might unfold on one of those yachts!

Why Thailand?

Whether you’re drawn to Thailand for its luxurious resorts, its rich culture, or its breathtaking landscapes, one thing is for sure: it will surprise and enchant you in ways you never expected.

As The White Lotus brings Thailand into the spotlight, I can’t wait to see how the show captures its beauty. But trust me, no TV show can fully prepare you for the magic of experiencing it in real life.
